Psychedelic Drugs Hold Medical Promise: A Summary

Image

The DEA and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration maintain that there is insufficient research to justify recategorization from Schedule I. This stance creates a catch-22 by basing the decision on the need for more research while limiting the ability of scientists to conduct that research. The June report recommends transferring responsibility for drug scheduling from the DEA to another agency or nongovernmental organization without a history of anti-drug bias, such as the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. No matter how it happens, until the drugs are reclassified, bringing psychedelics from research into clinical practice will be an uphill battle.

Psilocybin and LSD Shown to Reduce Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches are often viewed to be the most painful headaches anyone can experience.  The authors interviewed 53 cluster headache patients who had used psilocybin or lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) to treat their condition. 22 of 26 psilocybin users reported that psilocybin aborted attacks; 25 of 48 psilocybin users and 7 of 8 LSD users reported cluster period termination; 18 of 19 psilocybin users and 4 of 5 LSD users reported remission period extension. Why is this an amazing find?

The CIA’s Secret Experiments on LSD in America 1950s and 60s

This really shouldn’t surprise anyone…CIA doing unethical experiments on unsuspecting people? Shameful.  Especially when it comes to psychedelics.  One knows how important setting and state of mind is before tripping, so it was no wonder the reactions to LSD came out negatively in these “experiments”. What if I told you that “real” is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain?

What if I told you that “real” is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain?

Okay, yes, I did just quote “The Matrix”…which is one of my favorite movies by the way. Makes you question your LIFE. What is reality? Are you REALLY seeing what you think you’re seeing? Or is that “brain in a vat” theory actually true? Psychedelics has a lot in common with this movie in terms of the viewpoint on knowing the “truth”.

Traditionally, people that claim to hear or see more are classified as deluded or schizophrenic, but it may be possible to increase your input bandwidth to provide you with a more representative worldview. Psychedelics show us our world in a different light, but are they showing us something that we are missing, something that is real?

I found this amazing article on Psychedelic Press UK by Dimka Drewczynski, and it is one of the most well-written articles I have read on this subject.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading it right here. It will be worth your while hands down.

In the meantime, I’m going to list the highlights of the article that stood out to me the most

First Controlled Study of LSD-assisted Psychotherapy in more than 40 Years!

Standard

So what’s so special about this study?

Well for starters, it’s the FIRST successful study done on LSD-assisted psychotherapy since the 1970s…so that’s pretty awesome.

Also

It was a double-blind, randomized, active placebo-controlled pilot study conducted to examine safety and efficacy of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)-assisted psychotherapy in 12 patients with anxiety associated with life-threatening diseases.
